Gaelic Language Links
|
|
These
links are divided into 7 general sections:
-
General
Information on Gaelic includes those sites with overviews of the
language, its history, more lists of links and so on. Also
included here are sites with a large array of information.
-
Written and Spoken
Material are links to places where you can read or hear Gaelic
spoken.
-
Online Lessons are
more organized introductions or views of the language.
-
Courses, Colleges,
and Universities are places where you can take classes, either
for credit, or not.
-
Organizations are
where you can see more information on those organizations
promoting Gaelic.
-
Online
Dictionaries are available to help you translate.
-
Mailing Lists will
give you information on e-mail lists available.
Each section is
arranged by possible usefulness with the most complete and
interesting (in my mind) sites first. If you are looking for a
particular site, try the search facility of your browser.
If you are interested
in materials for learning Gaelic, lists of Gaelic music, or
sources for these, you might try our Books and Music section at
this website.
If you have any links that need to be added, changes
to the existing links, or you find that any of these links have
expired, contact Shannon
Duncan.

The
Book of Deer Project The Book of Deer was compiled
and written between 800 AD and 900 AD, and the Gaelic texts
added in the period c.1100-50, in the Ugie Valley around Old
Deer in northeast Aberdeenshire. Amid the Latin gospel text and
Celtic illuminations of this unique manuscript, can be found
the oldest pieces of Gaelic writing to remain from early
medieval Scotland. A digital copy of the Book has been
commissioned and an archive will be developed and available
on-line to provide greater detail and a means of study, as part
of the project as a whole.
